The Inspire STEM Youth Workforce Development Program is your gateway to a career in the clean energy industry. This 6-week internship is designed for high school juniors and seniors from Environmental Justice (EJ) communities who are passionate about making a difference.

Join us from July 8th to August 16th and get ready to:

  • Gain Hands-On Experience: Get exposed to real-world projects and site visits with leading clean energy companies like Schneider Electric and Honeywell. Explore areas such as energy efficiency, renewable energy systems, and more.
  • Develop Valuable Skills: Learn from industry experts through mentorship, professional development workshops, and practical training. Build the technical and professional skills you need to succeed in the clean energy sector.
  • Learn About Certifications: Discover the certifications relevant to energy technology and offshore wind energy that can bolster your future career or education.
  • Earn a $3,000 Stipend: Participants will receive a $3,000 stipend for their involvement in the program, recognizing their commitment and efforts over the 6-week period.

Applicants must:

  • Be willing to commit for the entire 6 week duration of the program
  • Identify as a person of color, from a historically underrepresented community (i.e. Black/African Descent, Hispanic/Latinx, etc)
  • Live in or be available to work in Dorchester, Mattapan, Roxbury, or Lynn metro areas
  • Be authorized and able to work in the United States
  • Be willing to submit an Academic Report.
  • Be a recent graduate or rising senior by the start of the internship

The ideal candidate is:

  • Interested in the Clean Energy industry and has experience working on Clean Energy related school projects
  • Available and responsive to phone calls, text messages, or email communications program staff
  • In possession of—or be willing to open—a bank account to receive direct deposit payment

What is the Inspire STEM Youth Workforce Development Program?
The Inspire STEM Youth Workforce Development Program is a fully immersive, paid internship designed to empower high school juniors and seniors from Environmental Justice (EJ) communities in the Greater Boston area. This 6-week program offers participants extensive training, exposure to real-world projects, site visits to leading clean energy companies, and ongoing career development support. We aim to inspire and equip students with the skills and knowledge needed to see themselves in successful careers in the clean energy sector, all while earning a $3,000 stipend.
Who is eligible to participate in the program?
The program is open to high school juniors and seniors, with a focus on students fin underserved neighborhoods like Hyde Park, Mattapan, Roxbury, Dorchester, and Lynn. Students must currently be on track to graduate high school.
What is Environmental Justice?
Environmental justice is the idea that everyone should have a fair and equal say in the environmental decisions that affect their lives, health, and well-being. It also means that no one should suffer more from environmental problems, such as pollution or climate change, because of their race, income, or background. Environmental justice is a movement that tries to protect the rights and interests of all people and communities, especially those who are most vulnerable or marginalized, and to promote more sustainable and fair ways of using and sharing the natural resources of the planet.
What is the commitment required for this program?
Participants will be required to commit to Monday through Friday, from 9 AM to 3 PM schedule, for the entire 6-week duration of the program, running from July 8th to August 16th. This commitment includes attending all training sessions, participating in hands-on projects, engaging in site visits, and actively contributing to mentorship and professional development activities. Consistent attendance and active participation are crucial to making the most of this immersive learning experience.
What type of stipend or pay is available during the program?
Interns will receive a generous stipend of $3,000 for the 6-week summer program, dispersed in three installments based on satisfactory progress and completion.
Does the program focus on specific industries in the energy efficiency sector?
Yes, the program focuses on providing pathways specifically into analyst, auditor, and technician roles within the Energy Efficiency, Offshore Wind, and Clean/Renewable Energy industries.
